Alpe d’Huez is a historic land of downhill mountain biking, the essence of which can be found in the thirty or so kilometres of the legendary Megavalanche trail, from the snows of the glacier to the small passages over the streams.

With its thirty-six signposted routes dedicated to mountain biking, Alpe d’Huez is at the heart of one of the largest mountain biking areas in France, an immense playground stretching over 2,600 metres in altitude difference, from the summit of the Pic Blanc at 3,330 metres to the edge of the Bourg d’Oisans valley.

The must-do itineraries in Alpe d'Huez

The legendary Megavalanche trail
Starting at an altitude of 3,330 metres from the Glacier de Sarenne, with your wheels in the snow, and finishing 2,600 metres lower down in the valley, you'll visit every kind of landscape: snow, scree, mountain pastures and forest! The best in the sport can do it in less than an hour!
The downhill trail at Poutran
This track, which starts from the Poutran gondola lift, will delight adrenalin-seekers with its steep gradient and huge banked turns. After that, the technical aspect, the use of multiple stone slabs, jumps and variations will satisfy the maestros of the handlebars.
The Bear Forest
A descent alternating between undergrowth and mountain pastures, a very rolling route with some fairly fast sections. For experienced climbers with a thirst for technique.
Le Tour du Signal
A cross-country route with impressive panoramic views. With a length of 17 km and a difference in altitude of 500 m, its 360-degree panoramic views over the valleys are well worth the effort and require a good level of fitness!

For experts: The K’lif trail at altitudes of between 2700m and 2100m. For intermediate riders (under-16s only): Côte Ouest de Villard (formerly Crête de Villard).
