What concrete actions has SPL Oz Vaujany taken to rationalise its energy consumption in the ski area?

The government has asked all companies to reduce their energy consumption by 10%. This energy-saving measure is completely in line with the eco-commitments that SPL Oz Vaujany has been implementing for several years.

Optimised ski lift operation

For several years now, we have been training our lift operators to operate the ski area's facilities more responsibly. The aim of this training was to reduce the carbon footprint of the facilities. Today, it also allows us to reduce energy consumption by adapting the speed of the installation to the number of visitors at any given time.

This winter, this adaptation will be done more frequently, in order to better exploit the possible savings. The aim is not to run the installations at full speed when there is no one on board. A common sense action, which will have a barely perceptible impact on your skiing day.

Producing the right amount of snow

Providing you with the best possible snow is a priority.

Every year, we replace part of our snowmaking equipment with high performance equipment. This results in substantial energy savings and the conservation of water resources.

In addition, a GPS system installed on the snow guns records the snow depth in real time. This detailed management of the snow cover allows us to increase the length of time the slopes are open and to produce just the right amount of snow.

These measures, together with a helping hand from Mother Nature, allow us to have a good snow cover and thus satisfy your outings on the slopes.

The invisible part of the Iceberg

We have installed a dashboard to monitor our electricity consumption in real time for the entire domain. This allows us to identify unnecessary kw more easily and to take the necessary corrective measures quickly

Energy saving also involves behaviour. We regularly remind all our staff of their daily eco-gestures.

Our results are encouraging and have already enabled us to reduce our instantaneous power consumption by 500 kW this year. We are convinced that all the measures taken this winter will enable us to achieve the objective of a further 10% reduction in electricity consumption and to meet our commitments.
